PETALING JAYA: A 42-year-old businessman, who holds a Datukship, and his accomplice were arrested today (Thurs) for allegedly assaulting a man at a restaurant in Tropicana here on Tuesday.
The Datuk and the 39-year-old man were arrested at the Mutiara Damansara police station when they turned up at 3.40pm.
The alleged attack occurred at the TST Hotspot restaurant at 9pm on Tuesday when the businessman, who is involved in several businesses including freight forwarding and manufacturing furniture, was chatting loudly while dining at the place with several friends.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faizal said today that this led to another diner who was seated next to the businessman’s table to chide the suspect who was believed to be drunk.
He said an argument broke out before the diner who is a 30-year-old manager of a private company was berated and assaulted by the Datuk and his accomplice.
Nik Ezanee said a waitress at the restaurant was also slapped and hit on her face and head by the suspect.
He said both suspects who are being investigated for assault and criminal intimidation will be remanded on Friday for further investigations.
Selangor police CID chief SAC Datuk Fadzil Ahmat said the main suspect in the case has past criminal records for causing mischief and criminal intimidation.
He said police will scrutinise the background of the suspects to ascertain if they are involved in gangland activities.
Two videos of the commotion taken by bystanders went viral in the social media on Wednesday night.
The videos showed the manager and a waitress being assaulted as staff of the restaurant helplessly watched the attack.
Two other men are also seen attempting to pacify and restrain the infuriated businessman from attacking the victims.
Netizens condemned the attack and urged police to act on the perpetrators.
