Car theft suspects nabbed in ambush near cemetery

PETALING JAYA: Two Indonesian men allegedly involved in a number of car break-in cases in Damansara over the past four months were nabbed in an ambush near a cemetery in Damansara Jaya on Monday.

Acting on information and reports, a police team from the Damansara police station spotted the foreigners, aged 30 and 37, near the cemetery before arresting them.

Police said the suspects tried to flee on a motorcycle but failed.

Apart from their personal belongings, police also found broken pieces of ceramic insulator spark plugs on the suspects.

The items are often used for car break-ins, to smash car windows and windscreens.

Police believe the suspects were on the lookout for their next target.

After interrogating them, the suspects led police to a shophouse in Sungei Way where police recovered portable computer bags, sunglasses and other items believed to be stolen.

It is learnt the suspects had confessed to the undisclosed number of car break-in cases in Damansara since September last year.

Among the cases was a break-in of a Honda City belonging to a designer at the carpark of Starling shopping mall in Damansara on Sept 27 last year.

The victim lost his portable computer, his company identification card, a data storage drive and cellphone.
