Cops nab boat operator for drug possession in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: A man looking to earn extra income by selling drugs was nabbed when his activities were detected by the police.

Langkawi district police chief Supt Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the 26-year-old tourist boat operator’s activities were exposed after being detained by a Langkawi Narcotics CID team at Kampung Nyior Cabang, here at noon yesterday.

“The man was arrested while walking with his bag slung across his shoulder in suspicious manner. When police later introduced themselves, the suspect began to act aggressively and tried to flee but was arrested.

“On inspection, police found two packets of 97.40g of heroine worth about RM2,000 and two transparent packets of syabu weighing 76.70g worth about RM6,000, “ he said in a statement, here today.

Mohd Iqbal said a urine test showed the man was positive for methamphetamine and had a previous drug-related criminal record.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction,“ he added. - Bernama
