KUALA LUMPUR: A Myanmar woman was fined RM100 in default 14 days’ jail, by the Ampang Magistrate’s Court here today, for begging in a mosque compound two weeks ago.

Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali handed down the sentence on Samjeetha Begum Thanalma, 58, after the woman pleaded guilty to wandering around Al Ridhuan Mosque, Jalan Hulu Kelang, here and asking visitors for money at 12.20pm on Aug 9.

The single mother of five was charged under Section 27 (c) of the Minority Offences Act 1955 which provides for a maximum fine of RM100 or imprisonment of up to one month or both.

The accused paid the fine. — Bernama
