Covid-19: Action taken against 80 individuals who failed to comply with quarantine requirements

PETALING JAYA: The police have taken action against 80 individuals who failed to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the Home Surveillance Order (HSO), said Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix).

As of yesterday, the police had conducted checks on a total of 2, 078 on individuals who are still undergoing the 14 days of mandatory home quarantine.

“The police and the health officials will carry out regular inspections to monitor these individuals to ensure that they are following the SOP under HSO,“ he said in a statement today.

Additionally Ismail Sabri said apart from those holding the people with disabilities (OKU) card, he reminded that students from B40 families will also be exempted from paying the quarantine fees.

“Upon arrival at the KLIA airport, these students will need to inform the secretariat on duty and they will review the data provided by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN). Once confirmation is made, eligible students will be given the forms of approval and must be submitted to the designated hotels (quarantine centres) when making room registration,“ he added.

“Individuals who refuse to pay the quarantine charges or sign the payment agreements, will be sent to quarantine stations at Public Training Institutes (ILA) to undergo the 14-day compulsory isolation without deposit payment in order to avoid the risk of spreading the virus to the public,“ he said.

He said these individuals will have to pay the quarantine costs (RM150 per day) within the 14-day quarantine period.

“If they fail to complete their payment within the stipulated time, they will be slapped with a compound of RM1,000 and legal action will be taken against them,“ he said.

Anyone returning from abroad must undergo the 14-day isolation period at quarantine centres starting July 24.

Ismail Sabri said the quarantine costs at all quarantine centres are the same , whether at hotels or the ILA.

Additionally, Ismail said police had arrested 104 individuals yesterday for flouting the SOP during Covid-19 period.

Out of 104, five were remanded and the remaining were fined.
