Covid: 2,847 new cases, Selangor tops daily tally with 748 cases (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: New Covid-19 infections in Malaysia remain above the 2,800-mark for the second consecutive days as 2,847 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 387,535.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted today that Selangor recorded the highest number of daily cases at 748, followed by Sarawak (717), Kelantan (476), Kuala Lumpur (302), Johor (130) and Negeri Sembilan (105).

A total of 89 cases were recorded in Penang, followed by Sabah (82), Perak (45), Kedah (44), Melaka (42), Pahang (39), Putrajaya (14), Terengganu (11) and Labuan (three).

No new case was reported in Perlis.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham in a statement today said 2,341 recoveries were recorded, bringing the total active cases to 22,512.

He said eight deaths were reported within the last 24 hours, involving seven Malaysian citizens and one foreigner aged between 30 and 85.

The death toll due to Covid-19 in Malaysia now stood at 1,415.

“A total of 260 cases were being treated in the intensive care unit, with 125 requiring ventilator support,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said eight new clusters were detected, namely the Jalan Roban Lama Cluster and Jalan Selirik Cluster in Sarawak, Jalan Sungai Daun Cluster in Penang, Persiaran Sri Saujana Cluster in Johor and Mempaga Satu Cluster in Pahang.

Also detected were the Gong Dermin Cluster in Kelantan, Seri Desa Cluster in Pahang and Jalan Bukit Bintang Cluster in Kuala Lumpur.— Bernama
