KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Parliament will launch the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s lecture series on Wednesday, Dec 12, the first to be held under the new government.

According to a statement from the Office of the Dewan Rakyat Speaker today, the lecture series will be officiated by its Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof while the question-and-answer session will be moderated by Subang MP Wong Chen.

According to the statement, the lecture series which will feature personalities who will share their ideas, experiences and visions is a step towards upholding the Reformation Agenda of the Malaysian Parliament as a legislative body which is open, independent, transparent and people-friendly in the parliamentary democratic system in the country.

Founding president of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), Tunku Zain Al-Abidin Tuanku Muhriz will present the first lecture titled “Parliament and Civil Society: The Voice of the Rakyat?” this Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm at the Conference Room, Parliament.

Among those who are expected to attend are the MPs, academicians, representatives of foreign embassies, non-governmental organisations, civil servants, undergraduates and members of the public. — Bernama
