E-Skrol application will resolve problem of fake certificates

PUTRAJAYA: Degrees issued by local tertiary institutions can now be verified through the E-Skrol application based blockchain technology.

Anyone, anywhere in the world can find out the data of a graduate of a Malaysian university, including his name, full transcript, graduation date and class of degree through the application and scanning the QR code, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said.

In his speech at the signing ceremony to use the E-Skrol platform using blockchain for graduates here today, he said the issue of fake degrees had a negative impact on the national higher education system.

“There are people who latch on to the reputation of Malaysian public universities to improve their profiles by displaying fake certificates. I believe the blockchain application can change this situation,” he said in his speech which was read out by Higher Education director-general Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir.

When met, Siti Hamisah told reporters that the first batch of Malaysian graduates who will use the application were the October 2018 post-graduates of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia.

“The application has now been expanded to all public and private universities,” he added. - Bernama
