Esscom detains 68 illegal immigrants in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) detained 68 illegal immigrants in an operation, Ops Gasak, early today.

Esscom chief Datuk Hazani Ghazali (pix) said the arrest involved 43 men and 25 women aged between four and 50 years from the Philippines and Indonesia.

“The five-hour operation which ended at 8.30am concentrated on a squatter colony in Kampung Ipil and the general market in Lahad Datu town,” he said in a statement here.

He said Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) which joined the operation also cut off the power supply of 40 of the houses for illegal connection.

Other agencies involved in the operation besides SESB, were police, army, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and Immigration Department, he said. — Bernama
