Ex-kindergarten operator charged with making false claims on fee subsidy

LABUAN: A former kindergarten operator pleaded not guilty at the Special Corruption Sessions Court here today to four charges of making false claims on Taska 1Malaysia fee subsidy worth RM45,360 about three years ago.

Kasmah Kasron@Kasarum, 60, made the plea before Judge Abu Bakar Manat.

She is alleged to have committed the offences between March 27, 2017 and Feb 15, 2018 by submitting 20 application forms for Taska 1Malaysia fee subsidy ranging from RM10,800 to RM12,960 to the Department of Social Welfare Labuan. The charge sheet says that all the 20 applicants never applied for the subsidy.

The woman was then operating a child care centre.

She was charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 24 (2) of the same act, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of five times the amount involved in the offence, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

MACC prosecuting officer Rekhraj Singh offered bail at RM10,000 in two local sureties with the condition that the accused reports to the MACC office once every two months.

Abu Bakar allowed bail at RM10,000, with RM4,000 to be deposited in two sureties, and asked the accused to surrender her passport to the court as well as to report to the MACC office once every two months.

The court set Sept 25 for mention. - Bernama
