SIBU: A farmer in Sibu Jaya here who walked to a nearby area to throw out his garbage this morning was shocked when he found a crying baby girl with the umbilical cord still attached.
Sibu District Chief of Police ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said when she was found at around 9.30am, the baby girl whose racial identity had not yet been identified was naked.
“When the farmer was about to throw the garbage, he suddenly heard the cry of a baby near a banana tree and searched the area. He later found a baby girl with the umbilical cord intact and was not dressed.
“He then brought the baby to his home to bathe her first before taking her to the Sibujaya police station to lodge a report,“ he said.
Stanley said the baby was taken to Sibu Hospital in a hospital ambulance for further action and the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment. — Bernama
