PETALING JAYA: Foreigners without valid driving license are undeterred by the repeated operations carried out against them by the Road Transport Department (RTD) and continue to illegally drive taxis, factory buses and other commercial vehicles here.

Throughout the operation which began about two weeks ago, the RTD have caught 181 foreigners for various offences such as driving without a license or road tax and other offences such as the illegal modification of their vehicles.

Myanmars topped the list with 96 held, followed by 25 Indians, 20 Pakistanis and the rest made up of Bangladeshis, Indonesians, Cambodians, Arabs and Nepalis.

Apart from cars and motorcycles, they were caught driving taxis, factory buses and lorries without valid commercial vehicle licenses.

In the joint-operation in the Klang Valley with the police, immigration department and other enforcements agencies yesterday, Selangor RTD director Nazli Md Taib since the foreigners did not possess driving licenses, they are unskilled drivers who pose a threat to other road users.

Over 500 personnel from the RTD and other agencies were involved in the operations.

There were also a high number of foreigners who were caught riding motorcycles with sidecars which they used to collect recyclable material for sale.

Among others held in previous operations were foreign students who did not possess international driving licenses.
