MIRI: The police have detained four Indian nationals in connection with the assault of an e-hailing driver near a 24-hour convenience store in Boulevard yesterday.

District Police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said the suspects, aged between 22 and 26, were picked up on the same day following a report made by a 33-year-old victim.

The victim sustained injuries to his left arm, head and cheeks caused by broken bottles in the attack by the suspects, who were believed to be under the influence of alcohol, he said.

“The victim is currently receiving treatment at Miri Hospital,” he said in a statement here today.

Lim said the victim was beaten up after he allegedly asked the suspects to pay for the cost of petrol after they suddenly cancelled the e-hailing service. — Bernama
