Girl, 4, dies in Shah Alam house fire

SHAH ALAM: A four-year-old girl died, while her father and a younger brother sustained serious burns when a fire broke out in a bedroom of a two-storey bungalow in Section 12 here, late yesterday.

The girl, identified as Daaniys Humayra Mohd Shafie, died during treatment at Shah Alam Hospital, where her father, Mohd Shafie Mohd Salih, and one-year-old brother, Eiman Haider, were being treated.

The children’s mother, Yusmaliza Mohamad Yusoff, 31, however, was not injured in the incident.

Section 15 Shah Alam Fire and Rescue station head Fire Dep Supt Azmel Kamarudin said the station received a distress call on the fire at 9.17pm.

He said the fire team, which arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later, found the victims already out of the house.

When members of the Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) examined the victims, they could still feel Daaniys Humayra’s pulse, he said when contacted by Bernama, adding that the three victims were then sent to Shah Alam Hospital, where the girl died.

Azmel said the firemen managed to control the fire at about 9.30pm and that the fire broke out in one of the rooms on the upper floor of the eight-room double-storey bungalow.

He said the room was occupied by the victim and her brother who were sleeping when the fire broke out.

“According to their mother, their father sustained serious burns when he went into the burning room twice to save the children,“ he said, adding that the family went to the bungalow only once in awhile as they stayed elsewhere.

He said the Fire and Rescue Department was investigating the cause of the fire. — Bernama
