JOHOR BARU: The hot and hazy weather that hit the country is currently giving a boost to a coconut shake trader in the city.
Checks by Bernama at the ‘’Wonderful World Coconut Shake’’ owned by Mazuri Lawan, 53, at Jalan Ayer Kolam, here, from noon to 2pm today, found that the booth had been receiving customers non-stop.
Apart from the original coconut shake that comes with vanilla ice cream, among other drinks on sale include coconut oreo, mango and soursop shakes.
Mazuri said on a typical day, he only sold between 40 and 50 cups of all the beverages, but he has increased to between 70 and 80 cups in the past two weeks.
“The original coconut shake is always the first to go. Once customers start coming, I don’t have time to take a breather especially in the afternoon,” said Mazuri who has been operating his business at the location for four years from 9am to 11pm daily.
According to Mazuri, original coconut, mango and soursop shakes are sold at RM4 a cup while coconut shake oreo is RM5.
He said about 50 mature and rose coconuts were used to produce original coconut and oreo coconut shakes with coconuts coming from Pontian and Kluang areas.
Amirah Balqis Makhadzir, 16, a student said she loved the original coconut shake and had visited the booth five times before.
“Today, along with my friend, Mashita Ussaimiah Hamdan, 14, we are buying two original coconut shakes and two mango shakes for our other friends. The hot and hazy weather are perfect for these refreshing drinks,” she said.
Private sector employee Mohd Firdaus Mohd Sulaman, 27, from Taman Perling also bought two original coconut shakes and two mango shakes.
“It just so happens that I have something to do around here, so I thought I might as well get some shakes,” said Mohd Firdaus who is also a regular customer. — Bernama
