Govt to set up regulated markets for fresh and wet groceries nationwide

PETALING JAYA: There will be more choices on offer for all Malaysians as the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) will set up its regulated markets for fresh and wet groceries nationwide, Senior Minister (Defence), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said today.

According to Ismail, in order to avoid the crowds during the movement control order (MCO) and to tackle the problem of having less selections or fresh goods being out of stock, the agriculture and agro-based industries will sell perishable foods including fish, meat, fruits and vegetables at 77 selected locations nationwide.

“The markets will be in 77 selected locations available at every state, which only 10 selected locations for pasar tani operating between 8am or 8.30am and 11am twice a week, 16 locations for pasar tani permanent markets that operate between 8am and 12 noon while 17 Fama operation centres will also be operating alongside with three Myfarm outlets including in Putrajaya,“ he said this during his daily conference held in Putrajaya.

He added that 34 Federation of Livestock Farmers’ Association of Malaysia (Flam) centres will be established as well.

The senior minister said that to ensure everyone’s safety, the police and army will guard the entrances and exits of all premises mentioned above, as well as enforcing social distancing to prevent the risk of Covid-19 spreading.
