JOHOR BAHRU: A man who threatened to kill his own grandmother because she refused to give him money was arrested by the police at Kampung Batu 16, Sungai Tiram, Ulu Tiram, here last night.

Seri Alam district police chief Alam Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 23-year-old man allegedly made the threat at his grandmother’s home at around 6 pm.

“He showed up at her house angry because he was not given the money he had asked for and brandished a knife and threatened to kill the victim if she did not hand the money over.

“The 75-year-old victim fled to her neighbour’s house out of fear asking for help. The neighbour then contacted the police,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Sohaimi said following the report, the police went to the house and arrested the man at around 12.05 am. Police also seized a 24-centimetre knife from the man.

“Checks revealed that the grandson was unemployed and had prior records relating to three criminal offences and two drug-related offences.

“He has been remanded for four days beginning today for further investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code,” he added. — Bernama
