KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in an effort to expose competition law to the public.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said through the MoU, UUM would introduce competition law as a new topic in the university’s learning syllabus.

“The ministry believes institutions of higher learning (IPT), particularly UUM, have the ability to become advocacy agents to widen understanding of the law to the society and students.

“This is a historic moment in the establishment of MyCC because this collaboration is capable of expanding and highlighting issues on the law to the public,” he told a media conference after the signing of the MoU yesterday.

Also present were MyCC chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hishamudin Yunus, Malaysian Bar Council vice-president Datuk Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor and Prof Dr Muhammad Fuad Othman of UUM. — Bernama
