KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian babysitter was charged at the Sessions Court here today with child neglect resulting in a one-year-old boy suffering bruises on his forehead.

The accused, Nurul Fithroh Maulidiyah, 23, however, pleaded not guilty after the charge against her was read out before Judge Emilia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid.

The woman was accused of committing the offence against the boy at a house in Desa Pandan, Wangsa Maju here between 1 pm and 5 pm on Sept 5 this year, in accordance with Section 31 (1) (a) of the Children Act 2001 which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a maximum jail term of 20 years, or both, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Dayana Mohamad did not request bail on the grounds that the accused is a foreigner while lawyer Nur Fazrin Ahmad, who represented the accused, appealed for bail on the grounds that the accused was supporting her family in her village.

The court allowed the accused RM7,000 bail in two local sureties with the additional condition that her passport be surrendered to the court and for her to report to the nearest police station every month until the disposal of the case.

The court set Oct 14 for remention. — Bernama
