Indonesian man who intruded into temple in Ipoh arrested

IPOH: An Indonesian man was arrested by police on suspicion that he had intruded into the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Kampung Dusun Bertam here early today.

Perak Deputy Police Chief Datuk Lim Hong Shuan said the man was detained after the temple’s management lodged a police report at 1.50am that 15 statues of deities there had been desecrated.

He said based on a tip-off from the public, the man was apprehended at 4.15am by police with the cooperation of local residents.

“Police also seized a spanner believed to have been used by the suspect (to desecrate the statues),” he said in a statement here.

He added that investigations were ongoing and called for the avoidance of speculation on the case. — Bernama
