TONGOD: An Indonesian woman drowned after a Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) she was in plunged into a river and was swept away by the current in Kampung Semundoh here, this afternoon.

According to a statement from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, the Kota Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 12.02pm from the Tongod Police Station about the incident.

The deceased, identified as Maria Pongli, 35 was found drowned by villagers about 40 km from the scene.

During the incident, the victim was travelling in the 4WD with her employer, Lee Yoke Cheng, 64, who was driving from the kampung to Telupid town when Lee lost control of the vehicle which skidded and plunged into the river.

The fire and rescue team handed over the body to the police for further action. — Bernama
