KUALA LUMPUR: Vivian Wong was sworn in as a Sandakan MP in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Wong, 30, the daughter of late Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt, took her oath in front of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohd Ariff Md Yusof.

Mohd Ariff told Wong to uphold the dignity of Parliament which is the highest legislative body in the nation.

“I hope the YB will continue the legacy and sacrifices of your late father, Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt, who was the former Sandakan MP. I hope you will uphold the dignity of Dewan Rakyat as demanded by the institution.

“You have been given the mandate as the Sandakan MP and the House hopes you will inspire the younger generation,“ he said.

Wong won in the Sandakan by-election on May 11. Stephen was also the Sabah DAP state chairman. He died of a heart attack at the age of 64 in March.
