KUALA LUMPUR: A new subject on integrity needs to be included in the training programmes or education modules for civil servants as part of efforts to fight corruption, according to Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation senior vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
He said it should also be part of courses conducted by the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan).
At the same time, he said, the government should introduce a new curriculum in schools to enable students to learn about the negative effects of corruption and why it is unacceptable.
“The timing is right because pure values and integrity should be instilled among the younger generation when they are in school.
This can help develop a culture of honesty and trust in future leaders,” he said in a statement today.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Latheefaa Koya was reported to have said that 46.3% of the 4,860 people detained by the MACC from 2014 to June this year were civil servants. — Bernama
