KOTA TINGGI: The state government is allocating between RM4.5 million and RM5 million to help residents who were affected by a storm that hit Tanjung Sedili, near here yesterday.

Menteri Besar Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammad said the state government would provide financial aid of between RM5,000 and RM15,000 to each family depending on the damage to their property, including house.

The storm also caused damage to schools, police stations and clinics and the relevant authorities are assessing the damages, he told reporters after visiting the victims at a temporary relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Setia Jaya, Tanjung Sedili, here, today.

Also present were Kota Tinggi district officer Hazlina Jalil, Johor Lama Assemblyman Rosleli Jahari and Sedili Assemblyman Rasman Ithnain.

The storm reportedly started at about 3 pm and caused damage to 291 houses and a few government buildings, including Sedili Besar Health Clinic, police quarters and several schools. It also uprooted 20 trees.

Among the villages affected are Kampung Teluk Jeri Luar, Kampung Teluk Jeri Dalam, Tanah Putih and Kampung Sri Gading.-Bernama
