KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) handed out 475 fines to motorcyclists in an operation between 8pm last night and 1am this morning at the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza, city-bound.

The Immigration Department, National Anti-Drugs Agency, Police and Road Safety Department were also involved.

According to JPJ Kuala Lumpur director, Datuk Ismail Mohd Zawawi, the series of Chinese New Year operations being held from Jan 29 to Feb 12 is aimed at reducing road deaths.

He said 1,900 motorcycles were inspected by JPJ and 15 impounded.

“The most violations were for riding without a licence, expired road tax disc, not wearing a helmet, not having rearview mirrors and altered number plates,“ Ismail said at a press conference this morning.

He said a urine drug test was done on 28 motorcyclists and their pillion riders, with a 25-year-old woman who tested positive for methamphetamine, arrested.

The operation also nabbed nine Indonesian men and a male Indian national, aged between 25 and 60, under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, for not having valid identification documents and overstaying. — Bernama
