ALOR STAR: The Enforcement and Control Division of the Home Ministry has detected a copy of the Quran with the image of an artiste on its cover.

Senior principal assistant secretary of the Hadith Regulatory Section of the division, Kamaldin Mohd Damin said the Quran was found in Kuala Lumpur late last year and the ministry was tracking down the company responsible for printing the cover.

“It is an isolated case, but it must be given serious attention and ongoing monitoring is being carried out to preserve the sanctity of the Quran.

“The Home Ministry has also seized the Quran which was printed in rumi script supposedly to benefit people who cannot read Arabic, including converts, but this is an offence as readers will pronounce the words wrongly, leading to wrong interpretations,” he said after launching a seminar on the Quran, here, yesterday.

He added that the division had also detected copies of the Quran which were printed not according to ‘rasm Uthmani’ style used in Saudi Arabia and observed by Muslims in Malaysia.

He said the Home Ministry was working with the Malaysian Royal Customs Department to tighten control and will seize copies of the Quran which have not been approved by the Quran Printing, Control and Licensing Board (LPPPQ) at the country’s entry points. — Bernama
