Kimanis sees highest voter turnout for by-elections since GE14

BEAUFORT: The Kimanis by-election today saw the highest turnout for by-elections since the 14th general election (GE14) held in May 2018.

This is the 10th by-election since GE14.

The Election Commission (EC) had targeted 70 % but the turnout was 79.92%.

“The turnout surpassed the 79.31% recorded for the Rantau by-election (held in April last year),” EC chairman Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun told Bernama TV in a cross over from Dewan Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd Dun Banir where the vote-tallying is taking place, tonight.

Today’s by-election is a straight fight between Parti Warisan Sabah candidate Datuk Karim Bujang, 67, and Datuk Mohamad Alamin, 48, from Barisan Nasional (BN)

The official results are expected any time now. — Bernama
