PASIR MAS: The Kelantan office of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) seized controlled items worth about RM1.1 million purportedly being smuggled into neighbouring country from January to August this year.

Its director Adnan Abd Rahman said the items included cooking oil, petrol and diesel as well as wheat flour.

“During the same period last year, the seizure was amounted to RM690,000 and the number has increased drastically.

“We will continue to intensify enforcement operations in collaboration with other agencies including Customs, the Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) and the General Operations Force,“ he said after launching the ‘Pam dan Menang’ programme at Caltex Bumi Emas Indah Sdn Bhd petrol station here today.

Adnan said a total of 40,483 premises were inspected from January to August with 443 compound fines totalling nearly RM80,000 were issued.

“We have also received 319 complaints from the public while 23 cases have been brought to the court with a total fine of about RM100,000,“ he said. — Bernama
