Kuching police to ensure tight security during Malaysia Day celebration

KUCHING: A total of 839 members of the police force comprising officers and rank-and-file personnel will be deployed at Perpaduan Stadium and the city centre on Monday to ensure security control during Malaysia Day is at the highest level when the celebration is being held.

Kuching police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani (pix) said the personnel will also include members of the Light Strike Force (LSF) and the Public Order Riot Unit (Poru).

“Police personnel will also be assigned to several areas such as Kuching International Airport, Hotel Grand Continental, Hotel Pullman, Hotel Riverside Majestic and Square Tower.

“Apart from that, two control centres will be opened at the Kuching police headquarters and the Sarawak contingent police headquarters,” he told a media conference at Kuching police headquarters here yesterday.

The Malaysia Day celebration which was initially planned to be held at Padang Merdeka at the city centre, was shifted to Perpaduan Stadium following the unhealthy haze condition which is expected to persist until the end of the month. — Bernama
