KUALA LUMPUR: Two laundry associations today appealed to the government to reconsider the policy to ban and freeze the hiring of foreign workers in the services and laundry sectors.
The Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Laundry Association (SKLLA) and the Malay Unified Laundry Association (Mula), in a press conference today, suggested that the government reconsidered the policy comprehensively.
MULA president Abdul Jalil Ibrahim said the impact of the policy would put small and large-scale laundry businesses at risk of shutting down and as well as increasing the number of foreign migrants working illegally.
“The laundry industry is a necessity and a key support services component to several important sectors including B2B (Business to Business) and B2C (Business to Consumer) involving hospitality, tourism, hospitals, aviation, manufacturing, shipping, transportation, education and more, including laundry service contracts at government agencies.
“If the laundry industry operation could not be sustainable, this will have a negative impact and will disrupt the entire business ecosystem,” he told a media conference here today. — Bernama
