BATU PAHAT: Two lorry drivers were killed when their vehicles collided on Jalan Parit Kuari, near Ayer Hitam, today.

The victims were identified as Khairul Azreen Suhairi, 26, whose lorry was carrying earth, and Ruzairi Mu’bin, 32 , who was at the wheel of a lorry laden with gas cylinders.

Batu Pahat Fire and Rescue station operations chief, senior fire officer Ishak Ibrahim said 10 firemen in an engine rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.37am and took 15 minutes, after waiting for about an hour for the arrival of the crane to prevent the lorries from sliding into a drain, to remove the victims who were pinned in their seat.

He said both the victims died at the scene.

Khairul Azreen was heading from Ayer Hitam towards Batu Pahat when he was believed to have lost control of the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer and collide with the other lorry before crashing into a pipeline by the side of the road, he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Batu Pahat district police chief ACP Azhan Abdul Halim, who confirmed the accident, when contacted, said a Perodua Axia car was also involved when hit by one of the lorries.

However, he said, the car driver was not injured. — Bernama
