KUANTAN: Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Lynas) will continue with efforts to ensure its rare earth plant in Gebeng here is allowed to continue its operation, said its deputy president (Human Capital and Community) Mimi Afzan Afza Abdullah.
She said the company was prepared to discuss with the relevant parties on suggestions, if they have, for the plant to continue to operate as it would be a big loss to close down the plant since it had trained many locals in rare earth processing.
“Lynas has produced 645 skilled workers who are capable of conducting research and development (R&D) in the field.
“Products produced by Lynas factory are used to make high-quality gadgets,” she told reporters after attending a Back To School programme, involving 250 children, including orphans, from Beserah, Balok and Sungai Ular at a clothing store here today.
Mimi Afzan Afza hoped the government would take into account the positive contributions by Lynas.
“The industry has given a lot of benefits for the people and the country. We hope the expertise that we have at Lynas will not be wasted ... we are prepared to work together to build a progressive and successful Malaysia,” she added.
Last Tuesday, some 130 workers from Lynas Corporation (Lynas) gathered in front of Parliament to urge the government to save their jobs and handed over a memorandum against the government’s threats to revoke the company’s licence. — Bernama
