MAHB seeks to stop AirAsia from publishing false statements

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd are jointly seeking to stop AirAsia from further publishing “inaccurate and misleading articles” in its website.

The airport operator and its subsidiary have issued a letter of demand to AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd as well as their respective CEOs Riad Asmat and Benyamin Ismail to compel them to remove the said articles from the carrier’s portal AirAsia Newsroom and to “cease and desist immediately” from further making such statements about MAHB.

In a press statement issued today, MAHB said it had no issue with AirAsia updating its shareholders on court proceedings “in accordance with the law”. However, it added, AirAsia had “overstepped its boundaries by publishing false, inaccurate and misleading statements about MAHB “aimed at damaging (its) reputation”.

MAHB said it maintained a longstanding position that the relevant dispute and related matters had been presented before the courts for determination and that both parties should let the matter be decided there.

It added that MAHB reserved the right to take further action should AirAsia refuse to comply with its demands.
