SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (MAINS) has allocated more than RM1.6 million as annual contributions for 1,321 suraus and mosques in the state.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pix) said a total of 1,020 suraus received contributions amounting to RM500 each channelled through their respective kariah accounts while 301 mosques received different amounts of donations based on their final fund balance that has been submitted to the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS).

“The allocation aims at easing the burden of people in the kariah who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic...(that’s why) mosques with small account balances get bigger allocation,” he said in his speech at the Negeri Sembilan Mosque Management Virtual Seminar here today.

Aminuddin also urged all mosques to be more proactive in looking after the welfare of the people in the kariah by using its fund to create food banks or other assistance.

He said food banks needed to be well managed to ensure that those in need can benefit from it. — Bernama
