Malay Manuscripts Advisory Committee chairman dies in road accident

KUALA LUMPUR: National Library Malay Manuscripts Advisory Committee chairman Dr Harun Mat Piah died after his car was involved in an accident at Jalan Persiaran Pekeliling, Kajang here yesterday.

Kajang district police chief ACP Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the 81-year-old victim was believed to have crashed into a tree after losing control of the Proton Saga FLX in the 9.50am incident.

“A Kajang Hospital medical officer confirmed the victim died at the scene,“ he said when contacted today, adding that the body was taken to Serdang Hospital for post mortem.

Born on Nov 14, 1937 in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Dr Harun received his tertiary education at the Sultan Idris Training College in Tanjung Malim and the Kuala Lumpur Language Training College.

Harun who had been publishing books on traditional medicine also studied collections of Malay manuscripts from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Sri Lanka, Europe and the United States. — Bernama
