Malaysian law students in UK should consult with High Commission on visa issues

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian students in the United Kingdom who are in a bind after their Bar examinations were postponed to August should get in touch with the Malaysian High Commission for assistance.

“They should contact our High Commission in London if their student visa is expiring before the examinations have begun,” a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Communications Division told theSun.

On March 17, the Bar Standards Board (BSB) confirmed that the centralised Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) assessments will not go ahead in April as planned.

The regulator said the decision to postpone the centrally-set exams was in response to the UK government’s measures to combat the spread of Covid-19.

“This is consistent with the advice about travel and social distancing,” the BSB said in a statement.

“The next scheduled opportunity to take the centralised exams will be August 2020 but we will need to keep this under review as the situation develops,” the BSB was reported as saying.

It was reported that some Malaysian students who had registered for the April exams were worried with regards to their status in the UK as their student visas would have expired by the time exams come around in August.
