JASIN: A man who went missing after heading into a mangrove forest in Kampung Air Tawar, Merlimau here to look for snails early yesterday, was found dead in the afternoon.

Jasin District Police chief DSP Mispani Hamdan when contacted confirmed the incident, and said the body of the 26-year-old victim had been sent to Jasin Hospital for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, Merlimau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operations commander, Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohamad Faisal Fuad said the department received an emergency call at about 1.41pm after being contacted by one of the victim’s friends, who was also looking for snails.

“A fire engine with eight personnel including officers was mobilised and arrived at the location 16 minutes later to look for the victim with members of the police force, before he was found unconscious.

Mohamad Faisal said the victim was later confirmed dead by the medical team and handed over to the police for further action.

“It is understood that the victim went in (to the mangrove forest) looking for snails at about 7am with his friend,“ he added. -Bernama
