GEORGE TOWN: A jealous trader was nabbed today for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s new lover in the stomach in an incident at an entertainment centre in Lorong Abu Sitti, here, early this morning.

The owner of the entertainment premises was also injured in the incident after he was stabbed on the arm while trying to stop the suspect from fleeing.

Northeast district police chief ACP Che Zamani Che Awang said the suspect had walked into the entertainment outlet at 1.15am today, and stabbed the 40-year-old victim and the 46-year-old owner who had stepped in between the duo.

“After attacking the two victims, the suspect, 54, sped off on a motorcycle but was later arrested at a hut in Hong Seng Estate, Pulau Tikus here, at 6.00am today,” he said.

The two injured men were sent to Penang Hospital for further treatment.

Che Zaimani said, according to the suspect’s 46-year-old ex-girlfriend they had broken up over a month ago because of a misunderstanding.

She also added that they used to be business partners at an eatery and used to stay in the same house.

The woman said she believed the suspect had acted so out of jealousy and anger that she was in a relationship with another man.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted his involvement in the case, Che Zaimani said, adding that the suspect would be remanded to facilitate further investigations. — Bernama
