KUALA LUMPUR: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) is implementing a three-month rental exemption for all of its business premises tenants from July until September 2021, as well as a 30 per cent discount on rent payments from October to December 2021.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Rural Development’s agency said the initiative, worth RM14.89 million, is expected to benefit 5,913 tenants.

MARA chairman Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said the move was made to assist entrepreneurs affected by the Covid-19 pandemic while supporting the government’s efforts under National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package (PEMULIH).

“We want to strengthen the Bumiputera entrepreneurs’ confidence, stimulate business growth, protect their jobs and revitalise their economy to enable them to sustain their business and become competitive once again in their respective business fields,” she said.

In June, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that MARA will be extending the 30 per cent discount on its business premises rental for six months starting from July this year, as part of the PEMULIH initiative. — Bernama
