MB: Kedah revives tuna landing project

LANGKAWI: The Kedah Integrated Fishery Terminal project, which was held up prior to this, will be revived in a move to turn it into one of the major tuna landing centres in the country.

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir today said the project, which would be sited in Kuala Kedah and would also have a dock for large deepsea fishing vessels, would be named the Kedah-LHF Integrated Agro Fisheries Development or KIFD.

“KIFD will become the biggest nucleus in the region in the fish supply chain sourced from the Indian Ocean and surrounding areas,’’ he told reporters here.

Earlier, he had visited six tuna fishing vessels belonging to Luhaifeng Holdings (M) Sendirian Berhad (LHF) which berthed at the Tanjung Lembung Harbour.

Meanwhile, he said several large development projects announced by the Barisan Nasional government here prior to this would be continued after implementation costs and benefits to the people were reviewed.

He said the review would include the importance of the projects in further boosting tourism services on the island. — Bernama
