Mercy Malaysia reflects on year, looks ahead to 20th anniversary

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercy Malaysia reflected on its past year with a Light of Hope walk, which also served as a kick-off event for 2019 which will be the organisation’s 20th anniversary.

About 100 people took part in the 1.6km candlelight walk at Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara Park in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, last night. They were comprised of Mercy Malaysia supporters and other activists.

The participants, who arrived before 7pm, donated to Mercy’s relief fund and were given candles before the walk.

They were treated to an acoustic performance by a band named SOS, which is made up of surgeons.

“We have had a lot of things happening through this year,“ Mercy Malaysia president Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus said. “This event is Mercy’s way of getting people to reflect on the year that was and make plans for next year.

“Next year is our 20th anniversary. We’re no longer new kids on the block.”

Mercy Malaysia is a non-profit organisation focused on providing medical relief, sustainable health-related development and risk reduction activities for vulnerable communities in crisis and non-crisis situations, both locally and internationally.
