KUALA LUMPUR: An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale rocked southern Sumatera in Indonesia early today.

The quake occurred at 3.05 am 116 km west of Bengkulu at a depth of 53 km, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

It said in a statement that the quake did not pose any threat of a tsunami for Malaysia. — Bernama
