KUALA LUMPUR: A mosaic layer was charged in the Sessions Court here today with ill-treating his girlfriend’s son by hitting the boy’s head to a wall.

Chak Chee Wah, 45, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Mahyon Talib.

He was charged with ill-treating the 13-year-old, causing the boy to be injured, at a house in Jalan Cheras 3 1/2 here at 8pm last Sept 14.

The charge, under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, provides a maximum fine of RM50,000, or imprisonment for up to 20 years, or both, if found guilty.

Mahyon allowed Chak, represented by lawyer Choo Yeong Shing, bail of RM12,000 with one surety and to report himself at the nearest police station every month.

Chak was also ordered against intimidating the victim and witnesses.

The court set Oct 6 for mention.
