PUTRAJAYA: The government has not made any decision to implement the teaching of science and mathematics in English (PPSMI).
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also acting Education Minister, said the discussion of PPSMI during a meeting with the Education Ministry on Jan 30, was merely a mention to the staff and not an implementation.
“We are still considering whether or not to implement PPSMI. We have formed a small committee within the Cabinet to conduct findings and present it to the Cabinet. The implementation of PPSMI will only go through after receiving the majority support from the Cabinet,“ he said at a press conference after attending the special address to the Education Ministry staff today.
At present, students undergoing the schooling system can learn about science and mathematics through the dual language programme (DLP).
