KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said matters related to power transition were not discussed during his meeting with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.
He said instead, they were only discussing in general of the need for the current issues to be referred to the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council.
“We didn’t discuss anything specific. It’s just a heart-to-heart discussion between two people and he gave explanations on a few things, however, I didn’t bring up Cabinet matters and I also didn’t lobby (for any Cabinet post).
“It was just a coincidence that I went to see him yesterday, I don’t want people to think that I went there to lobby (for a Cabinet post),” he told reporters after attending the International Unity in Diversity 2020 Conference, here today.
The one-day conference had gathered Muslim leaders, intellectuals and scholars from around the world to discuss and exchange ideas on issues relating to the Muslim world.
Meanwhile, Anwar who is also Port Dickson MP, said there was no need for him to undergo a polygraph test to assist in the investigation of the sexual assault allegation by his former researcher, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther.
“There must be a basis, piece of evidence and a need (to do so). If there is no evidence, no statement, no witness, there is no reason (for me) to take the test.
“They (police) have not made any request until now, why create this as an issue?
“I know what happened, I know the game, I know some of the players (who are) using this person. I think (I would) let the police deal with it. Unlike many other cases, I volunteered to do it (gave statement) fast, to invite them to the house and I went to see them at the police headquarters,” said Anwar.
It was reported previously that Muhammed Yusoff had made a statutory declaration, claiming he was sexually violated by Anwar. The PKR leader denied it.
Today’s conference saw three special guests gave their lectures, namely the Resident Scholar of the East Plano Islamic Center and also the Dean of the Islamic Seminary of America Dr Yasir Qadhi, Yaqeen Institute chief executive officer Syeikh Omar Sulaiman, and Syeikh Nuruddean, the Da’wah Institute of Nigeria Research and Training director.
In his speech, Anwar said besides appreciating the views of young scholars, the conference also aimed to share the efforts of these young ulama, who are active in arousing Islamic views and thinking through inter-religious dialogues, to explain Islam to the community, especially the younger generation. - Bernama
