JOHOR BARU: The stench which caused 33 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang to experience vomiting, shortness of breath and dizziness on Wednesday was not due to the dumping of toxic waste, according to police.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din, who confirmed this, said he had contacted Seri Alam district police chief Supt Ismail Dolah to inquire into the matter but was informed that no toxic waste had been detected so far.

“I have spoken to the Seri Alam district police chief and so far there has been no dumping of toxic waste anywhere related to the recent incident,” he told a press conference at the Johor Contingent Police headquarters here, today.

He was responding to a question on whether police had received a report on toxic waste dumping in Pasir Gudang.

The incident involving five boys and 28 girls reportedly occurred on Wednesday around 7.30am but no one was hospitalised, they were allowed to return home after receiving treatment from a nearby health clinic. - Bernama
