Over 8,000 firefighters to be on duty during CNY

IPOH: More than 8,000 personnel and officers of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) will be on duty during the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration this year.

Its deputy director-general (Development) Datuk Soiman Jahid (pix) said this was to ensure the safety of the people during the festive season.

“In addition to conducting patrols on major roads and highways, we will also conduct inspections on business premises frequented by the public to ensure that these places are safe to visit.

“For highways we don’t have hotspots as we usually obtain the information on where there is a need for firefighters to be on standby, including at the toll plazas and the rest and service (R&R) areas,” he said.

He said this to reporters after launching JBPM's social service initiative at the Ikhtiar Selesa Villa nursing home here today.

At the event, personnel from the Perak JBPM and the department’s financial management branch carried out gotong-royong to clean and repaint the nursing home and donated essential items as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The Ikhtiar Selesa Villa was established in 1999 and currently has 17 permanent residents. — Bernama
