PETALING JAYA: The pasar tani that was supposed to be held at the Shah Alam stadium has been postponed pending further instructions.

Selangor Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro–based Industry exco Izham Hashim reportedly said he was worried that enforcement officers will not be able to control the movement of market-goers during the period that it will be open.

“The state government is also looking at safety levels including the progress of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, and from there we can see if the pasar tani is safe to be held or not,“ he was quoted as saying in Selangorkini today.

Previously, he announced that the National Security Council had given its approval to use the Shah Alam Stadium in Seksyen 13 as a location to have the market organised by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama).

This follows Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s announcement on March 31 that 97 markets with specifications like social distancing will be organised by Fama.

The decision was made after there was congestion at public wet markets despite everyone trying their best to abide by the social distancing regulations.
