Patriot lodges police report over fake message

PETALING JAYA: The National Patriots Association (Patriot) has lodged a police report over a fake social media that was attributed to its president Brig-Jen (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji (pix).

The police report was over a social media posting in the app, breakyourownnews.com, with the words “Seru Rakyat Tolak Bantuan” that was attributed to Arshad. It implied that he urged the people to reject the government’s aid handout.

“The defamatory words against Gen Arshad has been widely circulated in the social media on March 31 someone using the name, Salmah Salam,” Patriots’ Director of Public Communications, Kapt (Rtd) Dr Wong Ang Peng.

“The police have assured us that investigation will be carried out. Once the culprit or culprits are identified we will not hesitate to take legal action. “

Wong said Patriot is aware that there are people twisting its media statements to give a bad image to its president and the association.

“As an example, in our last statement on March 28 we had urged the government to indicate clearly the source of funds for the RM 250 billion-stimulus package,” he said.

“Besides, we urged proper oversight and transparency in the funds disbursement. We were explicit that during this period of economic downturn made worse by the coronavirus pandemic, an economic stimulus package was very necessary. “

Our statement was clear and straightforward, pointing out shortcomings of the announced RM250 billion package, he said.

“Deceitful twisting our media statement to make us look bad and instigating the people to hate us are an act of cowardice. Those responsible are also of low intellect incapable of engaging us in a civilised discourse,” Wong added.
