Penang civil society leader Mohamed Idris dead at 92

GEORGE TOWN: The ‘grandfather’ of Penang’s vibrant civil society movement, S. M. Mohamed Idris (pix), passed away earlier today.

The president of the Consumers Association of Penang and Sahabat Alam Malaysia breathed his last at around 3pm today.

Idris, 92, died from suspected heart failure.

The man was a legend in the world of civil activism.

His fellow consumerism activist Datuk K. Koris Atan confirmed the passing, saying he fought on with his principles intact to the very end.
